When George McKerrow Jr. first opened the LongHorn Steakhouse chain of casual dining restaurants in 1981, he catered mostly to diners on the East Coast. The owner of the restaurant chain, Darden Restaurants, Inc., had a healthy 2015 with $1.5 billion in revenue. The majority of the company’s shops were located on the East Coast in 1990, even though it had spread to other regions of the nation including the Midwest, the South, and even Puerto Rico.
